In 1905, Julia Markham murdered her seven children with an ax and burned her house to the ground. Now her ghost is said to haunt this curve in Timber Ridge Road.

This one-lane, steel bridge spanning Cedar Creek three miles northwest of Monmouth is one of many christened a “cry baby bridge” because of its alleged connection to a desperate act of infanticide.

A once-thriving resort community, Vishnu Springs has captured the imagination of Illinoisans as much in its afterlife as it did in its heyday. Its three-story hotel, once majestic and full of exuberance, is all that remains of this famous ghost town.

While rich in history, Rockford College is also rich in ghost lore and the origin of a wide variety of alleged haunts. No less than three buildings are said to be home to restless spirits, along with one memorial arch.

Illinois State University is home to the ghost of its beloved librarian, Ange Milner, who is said to haunt her books long after her death.

February – Willow Creek Farm (download the .pdf)
Willow Creek is an unassuming farm in rural Carroll County, just outside the town of Shannon. In recent years, it has been the subject of at least a dozen different paranormal investigations, all of which have uncovered a treasure trove of mysterious phenomenon.

The Seventh Avenue is home to a wailing woman who wanders the tracks just beyond the dead end, searching for her missing children.
