Dan Norvell of Small Town Paranormal
Dan Norvell is founder of Small Town Paranormal and for the past year has worked to raise awareness of the damage caused by vandals to Blood’s Point Cemetery in Boone County.
Why were you first interested in Blood’s Point Cemetery, and how did you become involved in helping to restore it?
I was interested in Bloodspoint Cemetery because of all of the stories that I had heard growing up in the area. What really peaked my interest is all of the vandalism to the cemetery. In one weekend, the cemetery suffered more than 8,000 dollars of damage to the stones. When people hold the final resting place of others in such disregard, that just lit the flame under me.
Why do you think people are so interested in Blood’s Point Road and cemetery? Is it all in the name, or is there something to the legends?
I think people are so interested in Bloodspoint because of the name. If it were called Pleasant acres cemetery, I do not think you would have all of the hype associated with it. The road itself harbors the “car being pushed across the bridge” myth, and the “busload of kids dying there” myth as well…..neither happened to my knowledge.
What do you think can be done to curb cemetery vandalism?
In order to curb cemetery vandalism, you first need lots of lighting. If there is nowhere to hide, and you can be seen commiting the vandalism, that will deter you from doing it in the first place.
Tell us about the Small Town Paranormal Cemetery Crawl. What places did you visit and what are your plans for the Crawl next year?
The Small Town Paranormal Cemetery crawl is a charity event that will be held annually to raise funds for the Sydney Ives Foundation. The Foundation was created by the parents of Sydney Ives, a little girl from Rockford Illinois that died last year from a brain tumor. The foundation assists families that are dealing with the financial pressures involved with having you’re child become terminally ill. The funds are given to those families to use as they see fit….it can go towards medical bills, or go toward a trip or vacation for that child. It is a very good cause.
